Oxnard College Public Safety
The Oxnard College Public Safety Department offers Firefighter I & Firefighter II Academy, AS Degree in Fire Technology, Wildland Academy, Lifeguard Academy, and EMT Courses.
Under the direction of Former Dean, Matthew Jewett, the Fire Academy was awarded the National Bellwether Award for Project RECOVER.

Our faculty and management have many years' experience in their field. Our Fire Academy and Fire Technology instructors are either current or retired firefighters, and our EMT instructors are paramedics or registered nurses and have tremendous knowledge. We are all dedicated to student success and take pride in providing a comprehensive educational/vocational program that meets the needs required for recruitment throughout the State of California.

Steve Hall first joined Oxnard College in 1996 as a faculty member in the Math Department. An educator for over 25 years, he has served in a variety of leadership positions including Dean of Math, Science, and Health Division and Math Department Chairperson.
Dr. Hall graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics (SDSU), Master's in Statistics (SDSU), and Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University. |

Aric first joined the Ventura County Community College District in April of 2021 as a Communications Assistant at Ventura College. Before joining Ventura College, Aric worked in public communication roles at university, municipal, and business organizations. He is a graduate of the Cinema and Television Arts program at California State University, Northridge, and strives to empower communities through the collective act of sharing stories.
He's excited to be part of Public Safety and is eager to help the department support student success. |

Dr. Shannon Trefts, started her educational journey through VCCCD, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from CSUCI, her Master of Science in Counseling & Guidance and her Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Leadership through CLU. She quite thoroughly enjoy school and consider herself a lifelong learner. She is the Career Counselor/Coordinator and supports the Public Safety programs with their counseling and career development needs. She is excited and looks forward to supporting you through your education and career pathways! |
