Academic Senate

Spring 2020 Update: Meetings are open to the public and take place on 2nd and 4th Mondays at 2 pm, in Conference Room 307 of Condor Hall (CH-307).  We do not meet on college holidays.  Meetings will be held online using Conferzoom until further notice (Mar. 23, 2020)

The Senate’s primary responsibilities are to make recommendations for policies in the following areas ["10 + 1"], as defined by California Education Code Section 53200:

  1. Curriculum, including establishing prerequisites
  2. Degree and certificate requirements
  3. Grading policies
  4. Educational program development
  5. Standards or policies regarding student preparation and success
  6. College governance structures, as related to faculty roles
  7. Faculty roles and involvement in accreditation processes
  8. Policies for faculty professional development activities
  9. Processes for program review
  10. Processes for institutional planning and budget development
  11. Other academic and professional matters as mutually agreed upon.

The Academic Senate reaffirmed its commitments to academic freedom at its meeting of Nov. 23, 2015.  We fully support the Statement on Professional Ethics of the American Association of University Professors.
