SCHOLARSHIPS

 

CELP Scholar Program - February 19th deadline

Eligible students are:

  • Enrolled in school through at least December 2024
  • Studying any STEM field related to ocean and costal environments, marine conservation, or informal science education
  • Able to complete a W9 or W8

Will receive:

  • A financial award of $10,000.
  • Curated introductions to Aquarium staff and professional networking opportunities.
  • Engagement with Aquarium programs to explore interests and career paths.
  • “CELP Board” - A quarterly e-newsletter including job postings, internships, scholar updates, and invitations to Aquarium events.
  • Scheduled professional development webinars available for live participation and recorded for on-demand viewing.
  • An invitation to various CELP Scholar community building events. 

CELP Scholars commit to the following in their first year:

  • Participate in quarterly virtual check-in meetings.
  • Identify and engage in an Aquarium initiative of interest to their individual professional development needs or career goals.
  • Present a 5-minute “Lightning Talk” during the Scholar Symposium scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Aquarium.
  • Attend at least one additional in-person event.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
-       Be Latinx/Hispanic (self-identified);
-       Be interested in pursuing a career in the mathematical sciences; and
-       Be current/prospective college students

We especially encourage undocumented individuals, TPS beneficiaries, and DACA recipients to apply. We also encourage community college, Pell Grant eligible, first-generation, and low-income students to apply as well. We will use discretion in announcing the awardees and may not publicly reveal the identities of the awardees if privacy is of significant concern.

 

OC Foundation Scholarship

  • A variety of Scholarship Grants are available based on criteria including academic achievement, financial need, community involvement, program of study and more. 

  • Attend a demonstration, workshop, or Q&A drop in to learn more and get assistance with applying to scholarships. Dates can be found here. 

  • For students currently attending Oxnard College who will be transferring to a 4-year University, with a transfer timeline of either Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 = OCF Transfer Student Application (deadline: 02/29/2024 @ 11:59pm)

  • For students currently attending Oxnard College who will continue their studies in 2024-25 at Oxnard College = OCF Continuing/Returning Student Application (deadline: 05/31/2024 @ 11:59pm)

 

INTERNSHIPS

 

The National Science Foundation’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) 

  • Paid 8–10-week summer internship at universities and colleges across the country in all areas of STEM and Social Sciences 
  • Must be US Citizen/Permanent Resident 
  • Benefits: Receive $5,000-$6,000, housing, and travel to/from site 
  • Work closely with faculty members, graduate students, postdoctoral mentors, and program coordinator 
  • Participate in professional development workshops. Present final research project at poster session and oral symposium 
  • Applications usually due mid-February

STEMbassadors IDEA Center Internship (Learning-Aligned Employment Program)

OC STEM is partnering with the OC Career Center and the Learning-Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) to create career-related internships. The first internship opportunity will be a 7-week opportunity with the STEMbassadors IDEA Center in Ventura and pays $20/hour. The next round of applications will be reviewed on February 20th. Apply here. Not all students qualify. OC STEM LAEP students who qualify for Learning Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) demonstrate:  

  1. At least half-time enrollment  
  2. California resident classification 
  3. Satisfactory academic progress in a program leading to a degree or certificate 
  4. Demonstrated financial need 
  5. Eligibility to work in the United States
