USDA Pathway Program and Earth Team

The Ventura College MESA program would like to invite you and to join our Speaker Series with the USDA Pathways Program and Earth Team. Join this session to learn more about the Pathways Program, this program offers a clear path of opportunity with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). These programs were designed to help agencies recruit and hire well-qualified students and recent grads by streamlining processes and providing applicants with clear paths to internships and full-time employment. NRCS-CA hires Pathways Internship positions for careers in the natural resources field, NRCS hires: Soil Conservationist, Biologist, Range Management Specialists, Engineers, and Soil Scientists. The Earth Team Volunteer program is a component of the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, the federal government’s primary private lands conservation agency.

Fall 2021 Speaker Series

Moderator: Victor Hernandez, Outreach Coordinator, and Sociologist.

Hernandez has served as Outreach Coordinator and Sociologist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service from 2015, since then he has evolved the ‘Growing Together’ Latino Farmer Conference, and the ‘Growing Together’ Black Farmer Conference with Urban farmers among other outreach initiatives with farmer veterans and southeast Asian farming communities.

Arionne Patterson, Administrative Assistant & State Pathways Coordinator

B.S. in Agriculture Business at Prairie View A&M University and M.S. in Agriculture Education at Purdue University, Arionne spent her summers from 2015 as a USDA 1890 scholarship student and USDA Pathways Program Intern. Arionne came on board with the NRCS team permanently in April of 2021 as administrative assistance in the Management and Strategy division and currently serving as State Pathways Program Coordinator.

Juan Alejandre, Civil Engineer and Area Earth Team Coordinator -

B.S. degree in Civil Engineering at Fresno State and coming onboard full time with NRCS, Juan spent some time in the private sector and completed the Pathways Intern program in a number of NRCS field offices in the Central Valley and Siskiyou County. Juan came on board with the NRCS team permanently in 2019 as field office engineer at the Modesto Service Center. Currently, Juan is the field office engineer in Hollister serving San Benito and Santa Clara County.

Starting October 18th and for the rest of fall semester, all students and employees who are not fully vaccinated or who are still waiting for their vaccine cards to be verified on the MyVCCCD app will be required to get a PCR COVID test twice a week. Employees’ tests must occur at least 48 hours apart. You must then submit your two test results through the MyVCCCD app no later than noon every Sunday in order to access the campus later that same week. Additionally, everyone must continue to complete the app’s regular screening questions before heading to campus.

When: Monday, Tuesday, Friday 9 AM–12 PM
             Wednesday, Thursday 1–4 PM

Test results will be emailed out within approximately 24–48 hours. Off-campus test results are also permitted, but only PCR tests will be accepted.  

For those of you who are already fully vaccinated and have had your vaccination card verified through the MyVCCCD app, please continue to answer the app’s screening questions before coming to campus.

Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP)

NREIP places academically talented college and graduate students with interest and ability in science and engineering as participants in Department of Navy laboratory research for ten weeks during the summer. Interns will be selected based upon academic achievement, personal statements, recommendations, and career and research interests.
