OXNARD, Calif. — The California Kids’ Investment and Development Savings Program helps “jumpstart college savings for children statewide” by awarding them scholarships.

According to the 2025 Real College California Survey, two-thirds of California community college students who responded to the survey reported facing at least one form of basic needs insecurity. Over half of them said they were housing insecure.

Recently, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a new partnership that aims to connect more of these community college students to their CalKIDS scholarship money to help them with their educational expenses.
