Softball Takes Tough Loss
The Lady Condor softball squad was looking to improve their playoff chances. They were turned away by the Ventura Pirates, 11-2 (5 innings). Michelle Getman (8-5) took the loss during her toughest outing of the season.
“Today wasn’t her day,” commented Assistant Coach Todd Prieto. “The ladies pressed a little today, and we didn’t get it done.” Since being swept by Ventura on March 23, Oxnard (20-14, 11-7) had won seven of its last eight games to soar into third place and the Condors were on the verge of forcing themselves into the playoff picture.
But the Condors were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position before Anyssa Riley(above)drove in Oxnard’s lone runs with a double with two outs in the top of the fifth inning.
“We were in control of our destiny,” said Oxnard coach Paul Garziano. “But Ventura came out and played well. They beat us.” But Garziano was proud of his team, which nearly doubled its win total from a year ago, when it finished in the WSC Gold basement. “We made sure to tell the girls how proud we are,” said Garziano. Lady Condors 8-Run Rule Hancock
The Oxnard College women’s softball team kept their post-season hopes alive with a decisive 9-1 win against the Hancock Bulldogs. Michelle Getman (left) pitched 6 innings for the win, allowing 1 unearned run, on 1 hit and only gave up 1 walk.
Oxnard had another fine defensive effort, allowing only 1 error, which accounted for the Bulldog’s only run. Offensively, the condors had 6 hits, two by Jessie Shaw (right). They remained patient at the plate and tallied 10 walks, and 4 hit batters.
“The ladies are looking forward to next weeks’ huge double-header against Cuesta College” said Todd Prieto, assistant coach. The game has huge implications for the Condors as they move to 18-13 and 9-6 in the tough WSC.
Lady Condors Double-Up Pierce
The Oxnard Condor softball team took two important games from the Pierce Brahmas, 5-2 and 6-0. Prescilla Garcia (left) was the winning pitcher in game one, giving up only one hit and striking out 5 batters. All the Condors runs came across in the 4th inning.
In Game two, Jessica Shaw combined with Michelle Getman, to hold Pierce to only two runs on the day. The Condors got 2 runs in the first, 3 runs in the second, and 1 in the fourth to cruise to victory. Assistant Coach Todd Prieto said “the team gave a good defensive effort in both games.”
This effort moves the Condors to 17-13 and 8-6 in WSC play.

Lady Condors Fall to VC
The Oxnard College women’s softball team was one strike away from beating Ventura College on Tuesday. The Condors lead 1-0 into the top of the seventh, with two strikes and two outs. Michelle Getman (left)was cruising, on her way to eight wins on the season, when disaster struck. She left a pitch out over the plate to Alina Flowers, who drove a ball off Brystal Hood’s glove for a triple. Another hit and an error later, the Condors found themselves down 3-1. That score stood despite a couple of late hits by Oxnard. “Michelle pitched and outstanding game for us” said Assistant Coach Todd Prieto. “She made one mistake, even though she threw 66 strikes and only 14 balls.”
Janelle Garcia (single and RBI), Brystal Hood, Priscilla Garcia, Kandice Amaro, and Megan Weitzman all had hits for the Condors, who fell to 13-12 and 4-5 in WSC play.
In game two, the Condors suffered a big letdown from their hard-luck defeat earlier in the day. Michelle Getman and Priscilla Garcia held Ventura to 4 runs and 10 hits, but the offense failed to score (4-0).
Jessie Alcala and Megan Weitzman led the Condors with two hits. Brystal Hood and Lindsay Herrera added hits of their own, but the Condors couldn’t string enough together to push across any runs.
The Condors are back in action, March 30th against Moorpark College at the Condors Nest. First pitch of the double-header is at 1 pm.

Michelle Getman pitched well to earn her seventh win on the season, to go with only one loss.
In the second game, the Lady Condors pounded out 18 hits, and scored 9 runs, but fell short. “We just made too many mistakes on the afternoon” said assistant coach Todd Prieto. Women’s Softball Pays Back Citrus
The Lady Condors avenged and early season loss to Citrus, by coming back from a 2-run deficit, to defeat the Owls 5-4. Michelle Getman pitched a strong game for the win, allowing just two earned runs over seven innings. Jessica Alcala (left) drove in a run, and made several dazzling plays in the field. Megan Tooley ripped a double to center field to open the floodgates in a four-run fourth inning. Anyessa Riley, Megan Weitzman, and Kassandra Velasquez all had RBI’s for the Condors, in a balanced attack. “We played very well today” remarked Coach Garziano. Women’s Softball Has Tough Time at Orange Coast
February 3—Orange Coast
Game one saw Prescilla Garcia (right) pitching a strong 5 1/3 innings in relief of Michelle Getmen, to hold the Pirates to four runs. The Condors were only able to muster three of their own, taking a 4-3 defeat. “It was a game we should have won, but couldn’t get adjusted to their off-speed pitcher” remarked Head Coach Paul Garziano.
Prescilla Garcia was 2 for 2, with 2 RBI’s, and is now batting .563 on the season, with 8 RBI’s.
Game two was certainly an anomaly, with the final score 13-1, in favor of Orange Coast. The Lady Condors made nine errors, and couldn’t get anything going offensively. Michelle Getman pitched 2 and 1/3 innings, giving up 6 hits, but only 1 earned run. Jessica Shaw came in and allowed only 2 earned runs in nearly 2 innings, but the Condor defense struggled to make plays.
Coach Garziano said “It’s impossible to win any game with nine errors…We will learn and go on to the next game. This is a good group, and will certainly improve and perform well (going forward).”
This double-header loss puts their record at 2-3-1 on the season. The Lady Condors travel to Mission College on February 9th, at 2:30 pm.
