There are many genres within the area of Performing Arts and here at Oxnard College and we have instructional programs in Communication (Speech), Dance, Music, and Fine Arts.
One of Oxnard College's oldest and most loved groups is the OC Ballet Folklorico Mestizo which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2011. (Mati Sánchez, Advisor). The group gave the first two performances in the College's Performing Arts Center and are one of the Center's artists in residence.
There is also a Theatre Club whose advisor is Amy Edwards AEdwards@vcccd.edu and collaborate with the Community Theatre Group Teatro de las Americas who have cast many Oxnard College students in their performances and are the newest Artists in Residence.
Another focus for our department is the McNish Art Gallery which features Oxnard College students' artwork in a series of shows offered in the Fall and Spring Semesters.
Beginning in the Fall of 2013, Oxnard College established the Oxnard College Institute for Latino Performing Arts. The inaugural season included conversations with best-selling author, Alisa Valdes and Hollywood Legend, Edward James Olmos as a part of the Latino Thought-makers Series. Under the creative direction of Hollywood Actor, Screenwriter, Director, Rick Najera, the institute plans to produce four events each semester in the Oxnard College Performing Arts Center.
