Who are the Tutors?

Tutors are college graduates or students who have outstanding academic records and are selected on the basis of their knowledge and academic performance in the subjects they tutor, their communication skills, and their ability to relate to Oxnard College students in a positive and supportive way. The Oxnard College tutors are hired through a thorough application and interview process and are required to submit a transcript as well as a tutor philosophy.

Students can drop by tutoring as much as they like. These services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tutors work with students to review class material and help students learn how to study independently. The tutors' ultimate goal is to "work themselves out of a job". The Center offers:

  • Drop-in Tutoring
  • Study Groups
  • Study Skills and Specialized Workshops

The Math Center

The Oxnard College Math Center located in the Library Learning Resource Center is a learning place offering support for the Transitional Mathematics students. The Math Center allows for independent learning in an environment where the lessons are presented on the computer. Instructors and tutors are available to answer questions.

Study Skills Workshops

Study Skills Workshops are offered on the 1st Friday of every month starting in May in the Library Learning Resource Center. Schedule and topics will be announced.

Who can become a tutor?

We are always looking for good tutor candidates. A tutor must be academically competent in one or more subject areas and have good interpersonal and communication skills. Tutors are paid hourly employees.

Volunteer Tutoring

We hold our volunteer staff to the same requirements as our paid staff. Volunteer tutors are supervised on a regular basis and evaluated at the end of the semester.
