The Oxnard Condor baseball team went on the road and beat Santa Barbara 24-9. The win put OC two games ahead of both Hancock and SB in tough WSC Conference race.
Juan Reveles went 5 for 6 with three doubles, three RBIs and four runs scored. Bryan Willson had a home run, double, three runs scored and four RBIs. Willson also picked up the win in the ball game. Jonathon Erb had a double, two RBIs and a run scored. J.C. Aguayo had two RBIs and three runs scored. Jake Mahan had two RBIs and a run scored.
The Condors broke the game wide open in the fifth inning, batting around the lineup twice. “It was a laser show”, commented several of the fans on the visitor’s side. After the victory, the team was happy to pick up the big win, but as Assistant Coach Roger Frash pointed out “the guys react similar to any situation…they don’t get too high or low.”

The win pushed the Condors overall record to 18-8 and 8-2 in the WSC, two games ahead of Hancock. Oxnard is in action on Saturday at Santa Barbara at 1:00 pm.
Oxnard Baseball Takes Down Number One
April 6--Oxnard
With the wind whipping in over the right shoulder of pitcher Justin Bricker(left) and his solid defense, the Oxnard College baseball team can beat anyone.
Even the top-ranked team on the West Coast.
Bricker walked just two and stranded 11 base runners in spinning a shutout of visiting Santa Ana, the No. 1-ranked team in the Southern California and Western region coaches’ polls as the No. 6 Condors halted a three-game losing streak with a résumé-building 8-0 victory.
“That’s the first time we’ve ever beaten them,” said Oxnard coach Jon Larson. “It’s probably the best game we’ve played this season.”
Jonathan Erb and Blake Adame (left)drove in three runs apiece, J.C. Aguayo reached base four times and Brad Greve had three hits for Oxnard (16-7).
The Condors, who had dropped three straight since its nine-game winning streak was snapped, raced out to a 6-0 lead with three runs in both the first and third innings.
“We get to start a new winning streak,” said Bricker.
Santa Ana (19-7) entered play second in the state in hits (315), runs (221), slugging (.532) and home runs (31), but was shut out for the first time in 46 games.
It must be something about Ventura County. The three-time state champion had only been shut out once in 162 games since Feb. 6, 2007, when Ventura freshmen Zach Thornton and Greg Gelber, backed by a school-record five double plays, combined for a nine-hit shutout of the visiting Dons.
Bricker was backed by similar glove work six days after Oxnard made four infield errors in the first seven outs of a 4-2 loss to visiting Citrus. “Defensively, we were spectacular,” said Larson. “Last week, we couldn’t catch a cold.” A pair of ground-ball double plays helped Bricker wriggle out of jams in the first two innings and the sophomore from Camarillo allowed just four more runners to reach scoring position.
“He sets up hitters well and knows how to pitch out of jams,” said Larson. And he got stronger as the game progressed, picking up three of his four strikeouts in the final five outs of the shutout. “That guy just makes people look silly,” said Adame. “He makes big hitters look bad.” And the Condors lineup relentlessly attacked a quintet of Santa Ana hurlers.
Oxnard loaded the bases without an out in the bottom of the first on singles by Greve and Jake Mahan and a walk to Aguayo, taking a 3-0 lead on Erb’s two-run double and Adame’s sacrifice fly. The lead was doubled with a two-out rally in the third, capped by Erb’s RBI double and Adame’s two-run single. The Condors pushed it to 8-0 on Aguayo’s RBI single in the fifth and Brad Greve’s RBI double in the sixth. “This is a big boost for us, confidence-wise,” said Adame. “This is going to start us back up for conference,” Western State Conference play resumes Thursday as Oxnard (7-2) hosts second-place Hancock (6-3). OC Baseball Streak Comes to an End
March 25--Ventura
The Ventura College baseball team used an 11-run seventh inning to climb out of a 11-run hole and halt rival Oxnard College's nine-game winning streak with a 13-12 win in 11 innings on a streak-snapping Thursday afternoon.
Down 12-1, Ventura (7-11, 2-6) was on its way to a sixth straight loss before piling up 11 of its 22 hits in knotting the score in the seventh inning. Sophomore second baseman Derek Ring drew a bases loaded hit by pitch in the bottom of the 11th to win the game.
Despite suffering its fourth walk-off loss of the season, Oxnard (15-6) still leads the WSC North by two games at 7-1. The Condors soared to a 7-1 lead after J.C. Aguayo's three-run home run in the second inning followed Jonathan Erb's (above) first-inning grand slam. Aguayo was 4 for 5 with five RBIs and allowed one run through six innings. Jake Mahan was 4 for 5 with four runs scored. (VC Star)
Condor Baseball Walk-Off Winners over Ventura
March 23--Oxnard
Jonathan Erb (left) sliced an outside fastball the other way into left field with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth as the first-place Oxnard College baseball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a come-from-behind 4-3 win over visiting rival Ventura on Tuesday afternoon.
Oxnard (15-5), which maintained its two-game lead in the Western State Conference's North Division by improving to 7-0, had gone the first eight innings without a lead for the first time this season. Sophomore Justin Bricker (right) scattered seven hits and struck out six to improve to 3-1 with his second complete game…
Ventura (6-10, 1-6) suffered its fifth straight loss despite leading 2-0 after three innings and 3-1 in the eighth.
The Condors entered the ninth even, 3-3, by the margin of a shoelace. (JC) Aguayo laced a leadoff triple down the right field line and Willson followed with an RBI single.
After a sacrifice bunt and a ground out moved Willson to third with two outs, second baseman Ring had a spike on his lead left cleat catch on the shoelace on his trailing right foot and cause a game-tying throwing error.
The Condors are back in action March 30th, against Cal Lutheran University. They will also make-up a game against Citrus College, who is number one in the south in RPI ranking (OC third). Both games will be played at the Condor’s Nest, starting at 2:30. (VC Star)

Condor Baseball Still Rolling
March 20--Moorpark
Bryan Willson (left) made one mistake, in the bottom of the first inning of Saturday’s Western State Conference baseball game. Aside from that, the Oxnard College right-hander was about as close to unbeatable as they come. Moorpark College’s Matt Toczynski hit a two-run home run, but Willson settled down, giving up only those two runs in seven innings of work as the visiting Condors earned a 10-2 victory.
Willson scattered six hits and struck out five. “Bryan is a bulldog for us,’’ Oxnard coach Jon Larson said. “He never gives in, so I wasn’t worried once he got off to that slow start. When he’s on the bump for us, we’re a confident bunch. He always keeps us close in games.’’
The Condors (14-5, 6-0) gave Willson a nice cushion in the first inning, batting around and scoring five runs off Moorpark starter Patrick Donahoe.Brad Greve got things started by reaching on error. Jake Mahan then legged out an infield single, J.C. Aguayo walked and Willson added a base hit. Jonathan Erb, Blake Adame, Harper White and Zach McDonnell each had drove in runs. Willson kept the lead by retiring nine of the next 10 batters he faced.
“It’s a lot easier to pitch when my guys are coming up with big hits all the time,’’ Willson said. “Throwing strikes is easy when you have a lead.’’ Willson reached base in all five of his plate appearances. Mahan was 4 for 5, Greve scored a pair of runs and Erb finished with three RBIs. (VC Star)

March 18--Oxnard
