Aaron Sharp, Head Coach of the Men’s & Women’s Cross-Country teams, comes from a strong running legacy and continues a tradition that has proven to be a tried and true force.  Sharp, a 1997 CIF State Cross-Country champion in high school, ran for Oxnard College on the 1998-’99 Cross-Country teams during the Fall Semesters as well as Moorpark College for Track in the Spring.  He transferred as a scholarship athlete to compete at the NCAA level for UC Santa Barbara.  At UCSB he was a contributing member of the 2001 Men’s Cross-Country Team that won the Big West Conference Championships and made the school’s first ever team appearance to the NCAA Division I Championships.  He continues his passion of running today and maintains his own training at an elite level.

After graduating in 2003 with his Bachelor’s Degree, Sharp became an assistant coach to the Cross-Country and Track & Field programs for Oxnard College as well as becoming the head coach for the two sports at his alma mater, Santa Clara High School, until 2010.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University in 2007 and has been involved with Oxnard College ever since.  His philosophy is simple, “Run every day!”   He builds his program based on the traditions set forth by Arthur Lydiard’s running philosophy simply stating, “Miles makes champions.”  His goal is to not just simply train his athletes to perform up to their maximum potential, but he strives to seek and create opportunities for his student-athletes to move on to the university level by and through his program.  His desire is that it is a stepping stone to bigger and better things.  “If my students graduate and go on to earn their Bachelor’s Degree then I have done my job well.”
