Online Counseling

 Welcome to the Oxnard College Counseling Department's Online Counseling page! We strive to serve all students whether they are local or distance learners. If coming to OC in person is not a possibility for you please feel free to communicate with your Counselor online.

IMPORTANT UPDATES: Oxnard College will be closed on Thursday, July 4th in honor of the Independence Day holiday.

You may contact a counselor to work virtually with them in one of the following ways:

      • Sending a thorough email with your question will help us best serve you. Always be sure to include your full name and student ID/900#
      • All emails will be responded to within 2-5 business days
         
    • Apply for Graduation (Deadline for Summer 2019 is June 27 @ noon): Ready to apply for Graduation? Meet in-person with your counselor or click here to start the process on-line. If you do not receive an acknowledgement email prior to the designated deadline, it is your responsibility to confirm your application was received. You may follow-up with the counseling office at occounseling@vcccd.edu or (805)678-5816, press #4.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WITH e-COUNSELING

Services Virtual Advising counselors can provide:

  • review and update education plans
  • give academic calendar information including campus deadlines
  • provide guidance on selecting a major
  • provide information about registration and scheduling
  • interpret placement test results for course selection
  • determine course prerequisites and co-requisites
  • provide pre-admission guidance on competitive admission programs including Dental Hygiene
  • refer students to campus resources
  • inform students on college policies and procedures
  • assist students in preparing for graduation
  • trouble shoot registration errors

Services Virtual Advising counselors may not be able to provide:

  • SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) appeals; you can obtain the form from the Welcome Center but it should be completed in person with a counselor
  • authorize course substitutions
  • enroll probation/dismissal students in classes; you must complete an Academic Success Workshop and complete petition for Continued Enrollment for students on Probation or Dismissal in person
  • interpret course equivalencies from other schools
  • provide detailed information about which courses will transfer to four-year institutions
  • provide extensive semester-by-semester planning or counseling
  • verify receipt of transcripts or forms by campus offices
  • process or verify receipt of Financial Aid documents, contact Financial Aid at (805)678-5828
