OC Foundation scholarships & grants are all reviewed and approved, so you don't need to worry about a scam.
Outside scholarships are not monitored by OC Foundation, so it is recommended to research online to ensure the organization is reputable.
A few red flags to avoid:
- The organization website is not official.
- Personal information such as date of birth, Social Security #, and banking account information is being asked - this personal information will never be requested on an application.
- Scholarship application requires a fee or asks you to pay to apply. You will never be asked to pay for a scholarship application or to apply.
- Promises that the scholarship is guaranteed, or your money back - this type of wording is almost always a scam.
- Organizations advertising any type of seminar or fee to search for scholarships on your behalf and apply for you - scholarship information is freely available online, and you should never pay for applying.
