Every FLEX week and additional FLEX days offer faculty (and staff!) a myriad of instructional technology tools, student learning outcomes, and online teaching options. Please pay attention to college and district-wide communications about FLEX opportunities so you don't miss special and regularly offered workshops! Emails about FLEX week/days opportunities come during the summer and winter break, so DO check your district email over breaks!
FLEX workshops have regularly included:
- Canvas LMS Basics
- Canvas LMS Advanced
- Online Teaching Best Practices
- Regular and Effective/Substantive Contact
- SLOs and eLumen
- Google Apps for Education
- Adobe Acrobat Professional
- Online forms and survey tools
OC Instructional Support Services will help you report on your Student Learning Outcomes.
If you are planning to teach an online or hybrid course in the future for VCCCD, you must complete the district Online Teacher Training Course in Canvas prior to assignment.
Completion of the course prepares you to teach online for all three colleges in the district and effectively set-up and manage your courses with the most recent California Community College Chancellor's Office standards for distance education. The training course is conducted online, to replicate the student experience, and can take up to one month to complete depending on experience and technology comfort level.
2018 Spring Schedule:
- First Spring session: January 29 - February 25
- Second Spring session: April 2 - April 27

Which Instructors have completed the VCCCD Online Teaching Certificate Course?
A Certification list for all 3 colleges is maintained by the Instructional Technologist Designer team. The list is updated a couple of weeks after each training course completes. If an instructor is significantly behind and finishing a previous course, the Instructional Technologist will need to be notified in order to confirm completion before they are added to the district-wide list. If it seems possibly out of date, please contact the Instructional Technologist Designer for verification.
