Lady Condors Fall at Home
November 6—Oxnard
The Oxnard College Women's Soccer team played at home today against Santa Barbara City College. Oxnard was missing two of their starting defenders and it showed as they came out flat giving up a goal in the first 45 seconds and another in the 10th minute. After that the Condors settled down and their midfield of Maricruz Magana, Ashley Arana, Alma Izquierdo, Donna Ambriz and Brittany Charles dominated possession and created several good chances including two powerful shots from Maricruz Magana (above) that screamed over the crossbar.
In the second half the Condors started slow again giving up two goals in the first 5 minutes. The final score was 6-0.
Oxnard is now 10-8-2 overall and 3-7-1 in WSC play.
Lady Condors Struggle on the Road
October 29—San Luis Obispo
The Oxnard College Women's Soccer travelled to Cuesta College on Friday. The long ride to San Luis Obispo seemed to take some of the energy out of the Condors as they got off to a slow start. Cuesta took advantage of the Condor's sluggishness and scored four first-half goals. Oxnard pulled together in the second half and played with much more urgency. They created several good scoring chances and finally scored in the 65th minute when Alma Izquierdo (above) headed in a pass from Karina Salazar. Oxnard continued to push forward but gave up a fifth goal in the 80th minute to make the final score 5-1.
Oxnard is now 10-6-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the WSC. Oxnard travels to Ventura on Tuesday for a game at 5:30.
Oxnard Women’s Soccer Defeats Hancock
October 26—Oxnard
Ashley Arana (pic) and Ashley Castillo each scored 3 goals as the Oxnard College Women's Soccer team beat an undermanned Hancock College 10-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a game played at Oxnard College. Other goal scorers for the Condors were Ces Monatano with 2 goals and Maricruz Magana and Alma Izquierdo with one goal.
Oxnard College is now 10-5-2 overall and 3-4-1 in league. Oxnard's next game is Friday at Cuesta College.
Lady Condors Play Moorpark Tough
October 23—Oxnard
The O.C. Women's Soccer team played inspired soccer Friday in their match versus #9 ranked Moorpark College at The Condors Nest. The final score, a 2-0 Moorpark win, doesn't tell the whole story as the Condors dominated play in the first half. They outshot Moorpark 8-4 but unfortunately were down 1-0 at the half. Reeling from the continuous onslaught, and in order to protect their lead, Moorpark changed their formation in the second half by dropping a forward back and playing a 5-man midfield. The game turned into a defensive struggle but Oxnard, needing to score, continued to push players forward. This eventually led to the second goal when Moorpark was able to get behind the stretched Oxnard backs for a breakaway.
Coach Propster stated ";;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;that was the best I've seen Oxnard College play since I've been involved in the program. The effort of the girls was inspiring. Oxnard is now 9-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in league. They play Hancock College at home on Tuesday at 4:00.
Lady Condors Soccer Outplay West LA
October 15—West LA
The Oxnard College Women's Soccer travelled to West L.A. College on Friday afternoon and came away with their 9th win of the season. The Condors dominated the first half out shooting the Wild Cats 12-1 but found themselves down 1-0 at half-time. In the second half, the Condors continued to dominate play and finally scored in the 64th minute. Alma Izquierdo (above) took a pass from Mayra Aguiniga and blasted a 30 yard shot into the upper right hand corner of the net. Fifteen minutes later Brittany Charles (below) scored the winning goal when she knocked in a loose ball after a cross from Ashley Castillo. The final score was 2-1 in favor of the Condors.
According to Coach Bill Propster "We were clearly the better team but it was one of those games where we just had to grind it out. We could easily have gotten frustrated but I have to give the girls credit for the way they pulled together and just kept working. They showed great maturity, composure and confidence as they pulled together and raised their level of play in the second half to get the win".
Oxnard College is now 9-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in conference. Their next game is Friday at home versus Moorpark College.

October 8—Oxnard
The Ventura Pirates came to the Condors Nest, and narrowly escaped with a 1-0 win over the Oxnard College women's soccer team. Both teams had an ample amount of chances, but only one found the back of the net. Taylor Steele scored from 20 yards out in the first 15 minutes of the game, and both defenses held from there.
Jenny Ambriz, a freshman from Channel Island HS, stopped many of the VC scoring opportunities. The Game was nearly tied midway through first half when Alma Izquierdo chipped a perfect pass to Ashley Castillo, but was called offside.
“The girls played great and did everything we talked about. We limited their chances and created some good ones for ourselves. The best thing about the game is that we know we can play with anybody”, remarked head coach Bill Propster.
The loss dropped the Condors to 8-3-1 (1-2-1 WSC)

Lady Condors Tie against Cuesta
October 5—Oxnard
In cold and windy conditions at the Condors Nest, Oxnard College women’s soccer played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday. Early in the first half, freshman Ashley Castillo (pic) played a beautiful cross to Alma Izquierdo, who calmly punched it in. “This was one of the best (goals) we’ve scored all season,” said head coach Bill Propster. This gave the Condors the lead all the way until late in the second half.
Cuesta broke down the Oxnard defense, and was able to score a goal about 30 minutes into the second half. Oxnard had several good chances to take the lead back, but did not convert. “We got a great effort by our team..a little disappointed with the tie, but overall happy with the way we played,” said Coach Propster.
The Lady Condors are 8-2-2 (1-1-1 WSC). They are in action this Friday against county rival Ventura College at the Condors Nest. Kickoff is at 4:00.
Lady Condors Level Their Record at Hancock
October 1—Santa Maria
Oxnard College women's soccer defeated Hancock College today 8-1. Ashley Arana (left) had 3 goals and 1 assist. The sophomore from Hueneme H.S. now has 7 goals and 4 assists on the season. “Ashley is getting better and better with each game. Her confidence is growing and it shows,” said head coach Bill Propster. “I was a little concerned about a letdown, but the girls came out with a great attitude and got the job done.”
Other goal scorers: Karina Salazar, Ashley Castillo, Dana Ambriz,Marlene Valdez, and Teri Bello.
Oxnard now is 8-2-1, 1-1 in conference. Next game is Tuesday vs. Cuesta at The Condors Nest.
Lady Condors Struggle at Moorpark
September 28--Moorpark
The Oxnard College Women's soccer lost their league opener Tuesday at Moorpark College. The Condors, who were missing several starters, started off well but due to the extreme heat and lack of depth suffered a letdown. 20 minutes into the 1st half, Moorpark scored off of a mis-hit cross from the sideline that floated into the far post, over goalkeeper Jenny Ambriz. That goal seemed to deflate the Condors as Moorpark scored 2 more times to take a 3-0 half-time lead. In the second half, Oxnard made adjustments and created several good scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net. Moorpark scored two more goals in the second half to make the final 5-0.
Oxnard is now 7-2-1, their next game is Friday at 2:00 in Santa Maria vs. Hancock College.
Oxnard Lady Soccer Rises to the Occassion
September 24--Glendale
The Oxnard College Women's Soccer team travelled to Glendale College on Friday. The game was played in near triple digit temperatures on a turf field. The heat seemed to inspire the Condors as they came out on fire, scoring 3 goals in the first 20 minutes. The first goal was scored in the 2nd minute when Ashley Castillo scored off a rebound from a free kick taken by Maricruz Magana (pic). Five minutes later Brittany Charles scored from an assist by Ashley Arana. Arana score a goal of her own 10 minutes later from a pass by Castillo.
Glendale score late in the first half and again early in the second half to cut Oxnard's lead to 3-2. The Magana/Castillo combination worked again in the last minute when Castillo calmly slotted a Magana through ball past the Glendale goalkeeper to make the final score 4-2.
Oxnard's record is now 6-1-1. Their next game is Tuesday, Sept. 28th at Moorpark College.
Lady Condors Soccer Soaring
September 21--Compton
The Oxnard College Women's Soccer team travelled to Compton on Tuesday for a tough non-conference game at El Camino Compton College.
The Condors dominated possession in the first half but were unable to score as Compton defended with 10 players in front of their goal. Things opened up in the second half when Ashley Arana (above) scored her 4th goal of the season when she redirected a cross from Brittany Charles in the 55th minute. Oxnard continued to dominate possession and finally scored a second goal when Ashley Castillo scored on a breakaway in the 70th minute.
El Camino Compton scored a consolation goal on a penalty kick on the last play of the game to make the final score 2-1.
Oxnard's record is now 6-1-1. Their next game is at Glendale College on Friday, Sept. 24th at 4:00 PM.
Lady Condors Drop First Game of Season
September 14--Pasadena
The Oxnard College Women's Soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night, 2-1 against Pasadena CC. Host Pasadena made things difficult on the Condors by playing very physical on their irregularly small field.
The game nearly got off to a great start when Britney Charles smacked a shot from 18 yards out that pounded the goalpost and went out of touch. The momentum shifted into Pasadena's favor and they scored two goals just before and after the halftime break. The Condors continued to push and were rewarded when a stunning free kick by Maricruz Magana flew into the upper left corner, late in the second half.

Lady Condor Soccer Still Unbeaten
September 10--Oxnard
The Oxnard College and Citrus College Women's Soccer teams battled to a 0-0 tie Friday afternoon at Oxnard College. The game promised to be exciting, as both teams came into the game undefeated, with high scoring offenses. Defense set the tone for both sides, limiting the number of good scoring opportunities. Oxnard is now 5-0-1 on the season and has 5 shutouts while scoring 18 goals and giving up 2.
The ladies go on the road on Tuesday to face Pasadena College.
The Condor Men's Soccer team (1-0-2) played to their second 1-1 tie at Santiago Canyon on Friday. They go on the road against Cerritos on Tuesday.
Lady Condor Soccer Continues to Roll
September 7--Oxnard
The Oxnard College Women's Soccer team remained undefeated on Tuesday as they beat L. A. Mission 6-2 in a game played at Oxnard College.
The Condors dominated possession and created numerous scoring chances but found themselves down 2-1 at half-time.
In the second half, the Condors picked up their intensity and the flood gates opened as they scored 5 goals in a 25 minute span.
The Condor's first half goal was scored by Maricruz Magana on a 35 yard shot over the Mission goalkeeper. The second half goals were scored by Brittany Charles (two goals), Alma Izqueirdo (two goals) and Marlene Vazquez.
Oxnard's record is now 5-0.
Lady Condor Soccer Dominates LA Valley
September 3—Oxnard
The Oxnard College Women’s soccer team remained unbeaten with a dominating 6-0 victory over visiting L.A.Valley College on Friday afternoon.
After creating numerous chances the Lady Condors got on the board in the 23rd minute when sophomore Tanya McGinley got on to a loose ball in the L.A. Valley penalty box and fired a shot to the near post past the goalkeeper. Twelve minutes later sophomore Brittnie Frazier blasted a shot from about eight yards out after a deflected shot by Brittany Charles.
Within the opening two minutes of the second half the Condors increased their lead to 3-0 when sophomore Ashley Arana scored on a pass from fellow sophomore Mari Cruz Magana. Arana beat the goalkeeper with a well-placed shot to the upper right corner of the goal.
Arana scored again in the 30th minute as she pounced on a deflected shot by Alma Jimenez.
Ten minutes later, freshman Marlene Valdez made the score 5-0 as ripped a shot to the upper left corner of the goal after a pass from freshman Ashley Castillo. The speedy Castillo notched her second assist four minutes later when she beat two defenders and laid the ball off to freshman Ces Montano who beat the helpless L.A. Valley goalkeeper to make the final score 6-0.
The Condors dominant midfield and organized defense continued to shine as they held L.A. Valley to two shots on goal. The central midfield duo of sophomore Maricruz Magana and Alma Jimenez, along with freshmen defenders Mayra Aguiniga, Jessica Martinez, Alicia Valdez, Ashley Castillo and Goalkeeper Jenny Ambriz, have yet to allow a goal on the season.
Lady Condors Open Athletics Season with a Bang
August 29—Oxnard
The Seabreeze Tourney was an outstanding success for the Oxnard College Women’s Soccer Team. The weather was perfect, and the facilities were in great shape for the opening event for the Oxnard College Athletic Department.
The only drawback to the tournament was Hancock College (Oxnard’s first round opponent) was unable to field a team, and forfeited to the Condors. Oxnard had one open game on their schedule, so to allow all the teams’ two games of competition; the Condors played a double-header on Sunday.
Oxnard was outstanding on both sides of the ball against West LA. They got goals from Maricruz Magana, Marlene Valdez, and Tanya McGinley in the first half. Ashley Arana notched one more in the second half for a 4-0 shutout. Everybody got on the field, and the starters got a chance to save their legs for the second game.
The second game was extremely physical against El Camino-Compton Center. The Condors prevailed 2-0, led by Maricruz Magana, who scored her second goal of the day. Brittany Charles iced the game with a fine move between two defenders, scoring with left-footed blast.
Oxnard is now 3-0 and plays at home this Friday against L.A. Valley College; game time is 4:00 PM.
Oxnard College Promotes Bill Propster to Head Women’s Soccer Coach
August 3
After one season and a strong offseason of recruiting, Coach Dario Pot is moving on from OC to coach a professional soccer team in Holland.
Coach Bill Propster (left)takes over the helm of this budding program. Coach Propster has extensive coaching and playing experience. He has been the assistant coach here at Oxnard College for the last 5 years. He’s also been the Head Coach for the Westlake High School boys’ varsity team for the last 13 seasons. During that time his teams have won four league championships and finished in the top-ten in CIF rankings six times in the last 10 years. He has been voted Marmonte League Coach of the Year three times.
He grew up playing soccer in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and played at the University of North Carolina where he graduated in 1980 as the Tar Heels 10th all-time leading scorer. He holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University.
The Lady Condors open their season when they host the Seabreeze Tourney, starting August 28th at 10:00.
Women's Soccer Takes Down Hancock
October 27 - Hancock
Priscilla Villa (pictured) scored her 5th and 6th goals of the season as the Oxnard College Women's Soccer team defeated Hancock College 2-1 Tuesday afternoon. Villa scored her first goal in the 25th minute when she volleyed in a lose ball over the goalkeeper from about 12 yards out. Her second goal came in the 65th minute when she hit a first shot off a cross from Melissa Chavez. Hancock scored in the 75th minute to make the final score 2-1.
Women’s Soccer Bounces Back
October 2—Oxnard, Ca
Hancock 0, Oxnard 7
The Oxnard College Women's Soccer team got back on track with a convincing 7-0 victory over Hancock College at Oxnard on Friday. The lady Condors came out on fire scoring 4 goals in the first 30 minutes. The first goal was scored by Ella Ambriz when she redirected a corner kick by Maricruz Magana in the 5th minute. 10 Minutes later, Magana scored a goal of her own when she received a pass from Liz Govea and ripped a 30 yard shot over the keeper. Ashley French (pictured) scored the 3rd and 4th goals both off of crosses from Govea.
The onslaught continued in the second half as the Condors scored 3 more goals. Oxnard's 5th goal was scored by Melissa Chavez from an assist by Priscilla Villa. The sixth goal was scored by Brittnie Frazier, off an assist by Ashley Arana. Arana scored the 7th goal off an assist by Natalie Magana.
Women’s Soccer Comes Up Short at VC
October 9—Ventura
The O.C. women's soccer team played another tough game Friday night, this time it was at Ventura College. Down 2-0 at the half the Condors regrouped and scored early in the 2nd half to make the score 2-1. The play began when Liz Govea won a ball near midfield and played it to Priscilla Villa (pictured) who was about 40 yards out from the V.C. goal. Villa took the ball out of the air, turned and fired a shot over the V.C. goalkeeper and into the net. The Condors continued to battle for the tying goal but unfortunately V.C. was able to score the final goal of the game with about 20 minutes left.
Women’s Soccer Bounces Back with Tie
September 21, Rancho Cucamonga
Ella Ambriz (pictured) recorded an assist in each half as the O.C. Women's Soccer Team battled Chaffey College to a 2-2 tie in Rancho Cucamonga. The game was played in 100 degree temperatures.
O.C.'s first goal was scored by Melissa Chavez. The play started with a Maricruz Magana’s corner kick, which went past the far post to Ella Ambriz, who volleyed the ball back across the goal mouth for a wide open Chavez to head into the goal.
The second goal was scored by June Guillen. Ambriz got her second assist of the game when she won the ball in midfield, played a perfectly weighted through ball to send Guillen 1v1 with the Chaffey goalkeeper. Guillen calmly slid the ball past the keeper to the near post.
Coach Dario Pot said “This is the best game we have played up to this point. We were leading the entire game, and were unlucky to only get a tie. We had many chances to score, but given the conditions, the ladies played well.”

Women’s Soccer Loses Heartbreaker
September 18, Oxnard CA
On Friday, September 18, the OC Women’s Soccer Team lost a heartbreaker at home to L.A. Mission College. The Lady Condors dominated possession throughout the game but found themselves down 1-0 at half-time. OC came out on fire in the second half and scored in 45 seconds. The play started with Ashley French winning possession at midfield, quickly finding June Guillen who fed a ball through to Priscilla Villa who blasted a shot past the Mission keeper to tie the score.
As the Condors continued to dominate possession they pushed players forward to find the winning goal. Unfortunately, Mission found a gap in the Condor defense and scored their second goal with about 15 minutes left in the game. The Condors continued to pressure the Mission goal and appeared to tie the game when Villa headed in a Melisa Chavez cross. Villa was ruled offside and the goal was disallowed. Undaunted the Condors continued to attack but just couldn’t find the tying goal and the game ended with LA Mission winning 2-1.

Tough Loss For Ladies Soccer
September 15, Oxnard CA
Antelope Valley 3 Oxnard 0
The Oxnard College Women’s soccer team lost to undefeated Antelope Valley 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Oxnard College. Down 2-0 at halftime the Condors stepped up their level of play in the second half and created several good scoring chances. One of the Condors best chances came after several quick passes found Ella Ambriz 1v1 with the AVC goalkeeper. Ambriz tried to slip the ball past the on rushing keeper but the shot was saved. With the Condors pushing hard to get a goal AVC scored their third goal with 4 minutes left in the game.
The Lady Condors will be in action again this Friday against LA Mission at 2.

Oxnard College Athletics Welcomes New Women's Soccer Coach
Dario Pot has been named as Women's Head Soccer Coach for the Condors. Coach Pot brings a terrific wealth of professional playing and coaching experience to Oxnard College. His background includes playing in Bosnia, Germany, and the U.S. He has coaching experience with the Syracuse Salty Dogs and the Ventura County Fusion. Coach Pot holds the most prestigious coaching license in the world-the UEFA Pro License.
Coach Pot has assembled an impressive staff to assist the Lady Condors this season. Bill Propster remains the Women's Assistant Coach. Coach Propster has been an assistant with the program since 2005, and brings terrific stability and professionalism to the program. His background includes being the Westlake HS Boys Varsity Coach, and the Director of the Westlake Soccer Camp. Also assisting this year are Patrick O'brien and Emmy Ruiz. Coach O'brien played in England for 36 years. He also coaches for the Fusion, and holds many coaching licenses. Coach Emmy Ruiz played at Oxnard College 1999 and 2000. She works for the Fusion as an Assistant Youth Coach, and holds a Youth Coaching License.
