Field/Cross-Country
Geno Sharp has coached OC’s Cross-Country program for the last nine seasons. In addition he initiated the return of Oxnard’s Track & Field team in 2001.
Since Sharp’s arrival at OC, both his men and women’s teams continue to grow
and improve. Sharp in his first year guided his 1999 men’s team to qualify
for State Championship Meet, a first in the history of OC Cross-Country. He has
had individuals from both men and women’s teams qualify for the State
Championship Meet every year he has coached at OC. In 2004 OC's Men's team
finished in a historic best 6th place at the State Championships.
In 1999, 2000 and 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 Sharp has coached six individuals in Track & Field and Cross-Country to All-American status.
A 1972 graduate of Moorpark College and 1974 graduate of CSU Fullerton, Sharp ran 5000 and 10,000 meter events while in college. He received his bachelor’s degree in Sociology and completed his MA in Education at Azusa Pacific. Previously, Sharp has been an Assistant Coach to his spouse Debra at Santa Clara High School for seven years. The Santa Clara boy’s Cross-Country team won the 2000 Division V State Championship, another first in that school’s history. OC has finished in the top 10 in State in 2004, 2005, & 2006.
Assisting OC distance teams is Aaron Sharp, former OC Athlete and UCSB graduate. Aaron has running in his blood as he was a Cross Country CIF State individual Champion in high school in 1997. While at Oxnard he qualified for State XC as an individual in 1998 and led OC to their first team appearance in 1999 and earned All American Honors in Track. At UCSB Aaron qualified for the NCAA Division 1 National Championships with the Gaucho men's team in 2001 a first in UCSB history. He also qualified for the NCAA Regionals in Track and Field and was on the all time UCSB record list in the 3k, 5k, and 10k at the time of his graduation. In addition to Assisting at OC Aaron is under contract and runs for Nike Team Run LA. His experience and guidance has been invaluable to our program.
