About Tutoring

Tutorial services are FREE to all Oxnard College students. The Oxnard College Tutoring Center is dedicated to helping students to achieve their academic goals by helping them to be better students. Students may join any drop-in session without an appointment, ask for a tutor for their class study group, or make an appointment for an individual tutoring session. Come in and see what tutoring can do for you! We will help you to be a more successful student.

The Tutoring Center (located in the Oxnard College Library) offers:

  • Drop-in Tutoring
  • Group Study Rooms
  • Study Skills and Specialized Workshops
  • Laptops, calculators, and books that can be checked out hourly

Who are the Tutors?

Tutors are college graduates or students who have outstanding academic records and are selected on the basis of their knowledge and academic performance in the subjects they tutor. They are excellent at communicating complicated ideas, and can help you learn tough material and remain positive.

Students can drop by tutoring as much as they like, and services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Writing and Reading Center

The Writing and Reading Center is closed during the Summer Terms. It is also located in the Library, and can assist on a drop-in basis with reading skills and writing skills during the Spring of Fall Terms. During its operating hours, the WRC offers monthly seminars on various academic subjects as well, such as proper MLA/APA/Chicago citation methods and Study Skills.

Who can become a tutor?

We are always looking for good tutor candidates. A tutor must be academically competent in one or more subject areas and have good interpersonal and communication skills. Tutors are paid hourly employees, and you can indicate your interest by using the "Apply for a Tutoring Position" link to the left.
