Apply to the Fire Academy

To enter the Firefighter 1 program, an application process is utilized to select the student participants. On an average, 200 applicants are made available, 70 to 80 are completed and submitted and 40 are selected.

The following classes are prerequisites:

• FTR 169A - Emergency Medical Technician I
• FTR 151 - Fire Protection Organization

The following classes are listed as advisories in the Oxnard College Catalogue:

• FTR 152 - Fire Prevention Technology
• FTR 154 - Fire Behavior and Combustion
• FTR 156 - Fundamental of Fire Protection
• FTR 161 - Building Construction

The Academy will be geared to a level that builds on the skills and knowledge learned in these classes.

The Fall 2008 Fire Academy is now in progress through December, 2008.

Spring 2009 Academy Applications will be available online on our website approximately September 15, 2008.  Applications must be received (not postmarked) by October 13, 2008, by 1500 hours (3:00 pm).  .
