Oxnard College Murals to be Dedicated at May 19 Reception
The student artists from Oxnard College and California State University, Channel Islands who created four murals to be displayed at various campus sites will be honored at an unveiling and reception beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. The murals are located in the Occupational Education (OE) complex near the Oxnard College Bookstore where two of the murals, painted on wood panels, will be mounted. There will be an introduction of the artists and remarks at 5 p.m. with the reception lasting until 6:30 p.m. in front of classrooms OE-10 and OE-11. The artists, their supervising instructors and the locations of the new murals are as follows:
Oxnard College Mural Painting students: Julie Baron, Antonio Garcia, Olguin Tapia, Olivia Jones-Hernandez, Patti Beers, Elizabeth Herrera, Gloria Centurion, Ayla Barber, Gabriela Baragan, Alonso Lopez, Sinuhe Sabido Aguilar, Johni Nelson, and Jorge Becerra

Mural Title: “Phoenix”
Location: OE building/by bookstore
Description: This triptych mural of a phoenix being reborn symbolizes a time for change; renew of economic conditions, environmental consciousness, breaking traditions, social awareness, letting go and coming into the new.

Mural: “Flight into Life”
Description: A silhouette of a person with wings jumping off the Oxnard college clock tower into the real world. There will be inspirational quotes in the background. The color scheme has various shades of blues, yellows, reds, white and green.

Mural: “Identity of Hope”
Description: This vibrant, colorful mural is an expression of releasing one’s full potential. The word “hope” is secretly embedded in this design to symbolize a hopeful future and positivity in the days to come.
Location: South Hall 6 (in front of painting/ceramic art studios)

Mural Title: “Hand of Time”
Location: wall adjacent to bookstore (I’m not sure exactly what building this is)
Mural designed by: CSUCI Senior Capstone Project Students- Amy Macaluso, Daniel Para, Kristen Vickers, Anna Blair, and Nichole Wasserman. The instructor for this course is Matthew Furmanski, M.F.A., CSUCI Sculpture Professor
