The latest figures from the U.S. Department of Education-National Center for Education Status have ranked Oxnard College as 49th -- among the top 50 -- of the nation’s community and junior colleges awarding associate’s degrees to Hispanic students in the 1999-2000 academic year. Of the 386 total associate degrees OC awarded in the year 2000, 197 degrees, or 51 percent of the total degrees, were earned by Hispanic students.
Even with these improving statistics, the administration, faculty and support staff of Oxnard College are dedicated to advancing educational opportunities for our students. Oxnard College Interim President Dr. Tom K. Harris and Vice President for College Services Eloy Oakley plan to learn more about possible strategies for success when they attend the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) 2002 Capitol Forum on Hispanic Higher Education from April 14 to April 16 in Washington, D.C.
The meeting will cover the pending reauthorization of the Higher Education Act by Congress and the U.S. Department of Education and the potential impact for federal support for Oxnard College and other Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HIS). |
