Joining Mr. Gregoryk at the 4 p.m. groundbreaking ceremony will be Chancellor Philip Westin of the Community Colleges of Ventura County and Ventura County Supervisor John Flynn, a key supporter of the project and of the county-college partnership that made it possible. The officials will break ground for the $5 million “Community/Student Services Center” at the construction site which is located on the northwest end of the campus visible from Rose Avenue. The new collaborative building will house future community/economic development activities and student union activities.

The proposed two-story structure is the latest addition to the Oxnard College campus -- a $5 million, 32,000 square-foot multi-purpose building that will house a Student Center, Re-Entry Center, International Students center on the first floor, with the County's permanent Job and Career Center occupying the entire second floor.
Also attending the ceremony will be former Oxnard College President Steve Arvizu, who worked with Supervisor Flynn to finalize district and county support for the building. Other dignitaries expected to attend the groundbreaking are Community Colleges of Ventura County Trustee Art Hernandez of Oxnard, CCVC Board President Bob Gonzalez, Oxnard Mayor Dr. Manuel Lopez, Randy Feltman, director of Business and Employment Services with the Ventura County Human Services Agency, OC Academic Senate President Mary Jones and many others.
Following the groundbreaking there will be a reception with light refreshments.
The county will enter a long-term, $2 million lease to make mortgage payments on the building. Nearly $2.3 million in additional funding has been pledged by the Community Colleges of Ventura County and from a private organization, FLS -- based on the OC campus serving international students -- that will also lease space in the building.
