Community College Weekly recently released the list of the top 100 Colleges awarding Associate degrees in 2000-2001 and Oxnard College was ranked 94th among the schools awarding the most degrees to minority students. When this list is reduced to only the 108 California Community Colleges, Oxnard is ranked 38th. The minority groups included for the purposes of this list are African American, Asian (includes Filipino and Pacific Islander), Latino/Hispanic, and Native American. Oxnard College is also very successful in graduating a large number of Latino students, ranking 35th in the country and 17th in California.
Rankings are based on the actual number of students graduating and do not take into account college size or ethnic composition. Given this method of ranking, Oxnard College is demonstrating that it is contributing to the success of traditionally underrepresented students at the same level as schools that have many more students and/or greater percentages of minority students.
Students of all racial and ethnic backgrounds come to Oxnard College to succeed and these rankings are one measure of the results. Oxnard College will continue to strive to help all students achieve their educational goals.
