The McNish Gallery at Oxnard College is proud to present the exhibition, “Test Pattern: A Survey of Artists Using the Video Medium,” featuring video work from over 20 southern California artists. Curated by local artist Ryan Lamb, the show illustrates the variety of possibilities being explored through the increasingly accessible medium of video. In an age where high definition video can be shot, edited, and published in minutes on a cell phone, converting filmed footage into a presentable form is no longer a confusing and tech-heavy process. As technology has improved in performance and availability, artists of all genres have found video to be a viable medium to extend their body of work. For the most part, the artists selected for this exhibition are not techno-geeks or film school dropouts. These fine artists of various media backgrounds approach the video camera as a simple tool with the same ease as one might use a paintbrush or hammer. This easy access often results in a moving image that is much more akin to a painting or drawing than it is to a major motion picture.
In conjunction with the exhibition will be a workshop and gallery tour during Oxnard College's Filmmaker's Day, Saturday, October 23. Registration will take place at 8:30 a.m. Workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information regarding Filmmaker's Day, visit www.studentdigifilmfest.org or contact Kitty Merrill at (805) 986-1587 or ocfilmfest@gmail.com. |
