Alex Rivera of Camarillo, Director of Global Human Resources for Teleflex’s Telair International facility in Oxnard, has donated $4,000 to the Oxnard College Puente Project, it was recently announced.
The $4,000 is part of the $10,000 Chairman’s Award granted to Rivera in recognition for his role as an “outstanding corporate citizen reflected by the time and effort dedicated to his community,” according to Lennox K. Black, Chairman of the Pennsylvania-based Teleflex Foundation and Teleflex Incorporated.
Rivera and his wife, Linda, were honored at the Teleflex Annual meeting of Shareholders on April 27 in Philadelphia.
For the last seven years Rivera has been dedicated to the Puente Project, which enlists professionals such as himself to mentor students who will receive counseling and instruction to prepare them to successfully transfer to four-year universities.
“As chair of the (Puente Project) Mentoring Council I have always tried to assist Margarita Corral and Anthony Rodriguez in any way I could,” said Rivera. “I was so glad that the Teleflex Foundation was able to ‘up the ante’ and give increased support to this very worthy program,” he added.
In addition to his support for Oxnard College, Rivera was recognized for dedicating his time to raising and distributing funds through the Destino 2000 Hispanic Legacy Fund, which includes Boys and Girls’ Clubs and Future Leaders of America; through his work with the Ventura County-based food bank Food Share; his work with United Way of Ventura County; and through support he and his wife give to Junior Achievement, a program which helps children make the connection between what they learn in school and their successful participation in the nation’s economy.
