OC "EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE" AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET IS MAY 5
Tickets are now on sale for the 26th Annual Oxnard College Scholarship and Awards Banquet to honor outstanding students, faculty, staff and community members on Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the Mandalay Beach Resort in Oxnard.
Tickets are $15 per person and are available through May 2 at the Oxnard College Student Business Office in the OC Bookstore.
During the banquet Oxnard College students will be awarded scholarships and academic honors will be presented to students who transfer to universities or plan to continue their studies at Oxnard College. There will also be the presentation of the Oxnard College "Excellence in Service" Awards to be given during the ceremony, including the Mark Dever Award for Excellence in Teaching - Full-time Faculty, the Wallace Stevens Award for Excellence in Teaching-Part-Time Faculty, the Teresa Archuleta Award for Excellence in Service-Non-Teaching Academic Staff, the John Milton Award for Excellence in Service by a Classified Employee, and the Frank Gilbreth Award for Outstanding Service by a Student Leader. This will also be the fourth year in which the William Simpson Award for Excellence in Service to Oxnard College will be presented to a deserving friend and supporter of Oxnard College. The Mark Dever Award was named after the OC journalism instructor who died in an auto accident in 1983. The Wallace Stevens Award was named after the famous American poet who, as a part-time teacher, promoted creativity in the classroom. The Teresa Archuleta Award, named for the late EOPS counselor and coordinator who served Oxnard College for more than 20 years, recognizes the Outstanding Non-Teaching Academic Employee.
The John Milton Award for Excellence in Service by a Classified Employee was named after the brilliant English poet whose blindness was no handicap to his genius as an author and a statesman. The Frank Gilbreth Award for Outstanding Service by a Student Leader was named for the famous American efficiency expert.
The William Simpson Award for Excellence in Service to Oxnard College, was named after the longtime Oxnard civic leader and VCCCD trustee who was considered "the father of Oxnard College" in his unwavering support of the establishment of Oxnard College in 1975.
