ANNUAL OC SCHOLARSHIP AND AWARDS CEREMONY HONORS STUDENTS
Outstanding scholars -- current, transferring and future students -- were honored and more than $137,000 in scholarships and academic awards handed out at the 32nd Annual Oxnard College Scholarship and Awards Ceremony held April 27, 2008, at the Courtyard by Marriott in Oxnard. During the ceremony scholarships were awarded to Oxnard College students who will be graduating, continuing students and high school seniors who will enroll in the fall. Academic honors were also presented to students who will transfer to universities. Members of the Oxnard College Foundation -- Richard Regnier, Flo LaManno and Irma Lopez -- handed out Title V Endowment Scholarships for Continuing Students and Transferring Students. In addition, Presidential Scholarships went to students to honor OC's six past presidents and current president Dr. Richard Duran. Title V Endowment Scholarships were awarded to 12 deserving students. Other scholarships included the Helen Yunker Dental Hygiene Scholarship, the Dr. Paul Dougherty LaserVision Award of Lasik surgery, in addition to Academic Excellence Awards presented to students from the Letters, Mathematics, Social Science, Business and Hotel Restaurant Management-Culinary Arts departments. Deisy Ibarra was announced as the winner of the Frank Gilbreth Award for Excellence in Performance by a Student. There was also an installation ceremony for the newly elected Associated Student Government officers for 2008-2009, including President Diane Garcia, Vice President Johnny Vasquez, Secretary Jennifer Campbell, Treasurer Joe Perez, Public Relations officer Elizabeth Rangel and Senators Antonia Flores, Adan Mateo, Rex Belisle, Winverly Rivera and Deisy Ibarra. |
