OC FOUNDATION SPEARHEADS CAMPAIGN TO RENAME THE OC CLOCKTOWER THE "LOPEZ TOWER"
In the very near future the Oxnard College Clock tower will be known as the “Lopez Tower” as the Oxnard College Foundation mounts a campaign to rename the imposing structure after Oxnard’s longtime mayor Dr. Manuel Lopez.
The OC Foundation’s “Lopez Tower” Committee — Nina Duarte, Armando Lopez and Dr. Priscilla Partridge de Garcia — hosted a campaign kickoff breakfast on May 31. Dozens of friends of Mayor Lopez were invited to attend the breakfast in the college gazebo in the shadow of the clocktower and pledge $500 to help rename the structure. After an introduction by Oxnard City Councilman John Zaragoza, a director of the executive board of the Oxnard College Foundation, attendees paid tribute to Dr. Lopez, who spoke of the value of education to the community.
Attending the breakfast were Ventura County Community College District Chancellor Philip Westin, VCCCD Trustee Art Hernandez, who represents Oxnard on the Board of Trustees, Oxnard College Foundation board members Al Plascencia and Florence LaManno, among others.
Donors included Loren Black of Community Dynamics, Dr. Larry Lee, Lexus of Oxnard, Aaron Raznick of Raznick & Son, Allen Camp of Swift Financial and Eddie Cabral and Mike Delgado of West Coast Refrigerated Trucking.
In the near future a dedication celebration will be held and a plaque listing the “Friends of Mayor Manny Lopez” will be affixed to the clocktower.
