OXNARD, California— Winners of the Saturday, November 17 “GEOGRAPHY BOWL 2001” competition to be held at Oxnard College will get a chance to soar over the campus and most of southern Ventura County, courtesy of Aspen Helicopters of Oxnard.
All 27 Ventura County public and private high schools have been invited to send student teams to compete in the day-long event, beginning at 8:30 a.m., according to organizers.
This is the 13th annual competition and the third year that the event will be held in November in conjunction with National Geography Awareness Month.
GEO BOWL 2000 will include individual written competition challenging students’ knowledge of global issues on geography, the environment and economics.
The event concludes with round robin team competition held in the OC gymnasium. Awards will be given to the individual first, second and third place winners and recognition awards will go to the teams placing first, second in third in each of the categories.
The team that wins round robin competition receives the perpetual trophy to be displayed at their school for one year. Last year Camarillo High School-Team 1 took first place at the “Geography Bowl 2000” competition held Saturday, November 18, at Oxnard College, holding off a strong challenge from two Oxnard High School teams that captured second and third place at the annual event.
