Tickets are now available for the Oxnard College Foundation’s Fourth Annual “Celebrity Waiter” dinner to be held Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Whale’s Tail Restaurant overlooking Channel Islands Harbor.
The dinner is at 7 p.m., preceded by a social hour and silent auction beginning at 6 p.m.
Everything from elaborate gift baskets to gift certificates for restaurant dinners, spa visits and theater tickets will be auctioned off. In past years there have been donations of resort accommodations, luxury automobile rentals and a stint as a “City Manager for a Day” offered by Oxnard City Manager Ed Sotelo. Silent auction items include a variety of floral baskets adorned with concert tickets, wine and cheese baskets, gourmet coffee, engraved pen sets, hard-to-find Beanie Babies and donations of Tower Club spa and restaurant gift certificates.
Event co-chairs Diane Markham, a local businesswoman, and OC Foundation Executive Director Dr. Priscilla de Garcia said that funds raised at the dinner will be earmarked for the OC Foundation’s Title V Endowment, which will raise matching federal funds with the goal of doubling student scholarships awarded by the foundation.
Tickets for the event are $45.00 per person. The “celebrity” waiters are local officials, businessmen and college leaders who collects tips from their “customers” throughout the evening for table service and entertainment. The Celebrity Waiter with the most collected tips will win the “Favorite Waiter Award” at the end of the evening.
