LIVING IN THE PLATE BOUNDARY: OUR TORN, TWISTED,
AND SHAKY LANDSCAPES
Living in Southern California means beautiful weather almost year round, but it also means we live in one of the most geologically active areas in the world. Dr. Tanya Atwater will discuss what really is happening beneath our feet and in our ocean. Dr. Atwater is a professor of Geological Science at UCSB. She was educated at M.I.T., U.C. Berkeley, and Scripps Institute of Oceanography, earning her Ph.D. in 1972. Her research in tectonics has taken her to the bottom of the oceans and to mountains on many continents. She is especially well known for her works on the plate tectonic history of western North America and of the San Andreas fault system. This work is presently taking her in new exciting directions. |
