OXNARD COLLEGE DENTAL HYGIENE PROGRAM RANKED NO. 1 IN U.S.
Based on the results of Oxnard College dental hygiene students who recently took the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination tests, the Oxnard College Dental Hygiene program has been ranked first among the top 254 accredited schools in the nation.
It is the highest ranking the Oxnard College Dental Hygiene program has ever achieved, surpassing its “No. 2” rating first achieved in 2002 , said Dr. Betsy Lindbergh, Coordinator of the OC Dental Hygiene program.
“We are very proud of this incredible achievement,” said Dr. Lindbergh. “The ranking was based solely on academic ability. It was the result of pure ’brain power’ and the hard work of a very special group of students — the Class of 2005.”
“The rank of ‘1’ is assigned to the school with the highest average standard score,” said Dr. Gene Kramer, Lead Manager for the Department of Testing Services/Research and Development for the American Dental Association. The Commission on Dental Accreditation administers the National Board exams for the American Dental Association. "The first listing shows the average raw score performance in each of the disciplines including on the this examination, as well as the case-based section."
Dr. Lindbergh said she would share the good news with her team of Dental Hygiene faculty — including lead instructor Dr. Richard Enrique — when they meet this week prior to the beginning of the fall semester on Aug. 15.
“This No. 1 ranking reflects the dedication and excellence of the entire Dental Hygiene team of full-time and part-time faculty and administrators,” she added.
The students who took the National Board exams graduated from the Dental Hygiene program in May after an intensive, two-year program of study and clinical work. The National Board Dental Hygiene Examination tests students on their abilities in areas such as anatomical sciences, pharmacology, general pathology, immunology, radiology, patients assessment, community health and preventative care.
