JUDGE JOE BROWN TO SPEAK FEB. 11 AT OXNARD COLLEGE
Judge Joe Brown, the "non-traditional" presiding judge of the syndicated reality courtroom show JUDGE JOE BROWN broadcast on local cable TV stations, will speak to students, college staff and community members during a special appearance from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, in the Oxnard College Gymnasium.
The event is sponsored by the Black Employees Association of Oxnard College and is one of many Black History Month events planned on campus, said Delois Flowers, Dean of Student Learning.
From 1990 until April 2000, Judge Brown served as presiding judge of the Shelby County Criminal Courts in Memphis, Tennessee, and was known for his unconventional methods of sentencing first time, non-violent offenders. Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in the neighborhoods of South Central L.A., Judge Brown graduated from UCLA Law School with a law degree and become the first African-American prosecutor for the City of Memphis.
