OXNARD COLLEGE STUDENTS WIN HONORS AT SPRING SPEECH TOURNAMENT
Oxnard College speech students Tracy Puyot, Mario Arana and Lori Hawes took the top awards at the Oxnard College Spring Speech Tournament held May 1 at Oxnard College. OC Tournament organizer Amy London thanked the 21 faculty and staff members who helped to judge the approximately 100 students participating in the informative speech, persuasive speech and oral interpretation categories. She also paid tribute to retiring speech instructor Roland Glover, who was honored with testimonials from former student Carmen Guerrero, now Dean of Technical and Career Education at OC, and OC English instructor Anthony Rodriguez. Each of the finalists had to face off against other talented speakers in their categories and had survived one round in order to advance to the finals.
First Place winner in the Informative Speaking category was Lori Hawes (2nd place—Pamela Lopez, 3rd—Emy Espinoza); first place winner in the Persuasive Speaking category was Tracy Puyot (2nd place—Ben Nunez, 3rd—Daile St. Vincent); and first-place winner in the Oral Interpretation category was Mario Arana (2nd place—Kevin Downey and 3rd place —Alma Fernandez). Ms. London extended thanks to judges Shelley Savren, Chris Mainzer, Teresa Bonham, Frances Lewis, Ishita Edwards, Gaylene Crocker, Vern Simmen, Hussein Fahs, Peggy Smith, Judy Kleiner, Jose Cornelio, Leslie Radford, Roland Glover, Everardo Rivera, Lilia Ruvalcaba, Andrew Cawelti, Dr. Richard Duran, Susan Jones, Margaret M, Anthony Rodriguez and Mary Jones. |
