OXNARD COLLEGE STAFF RECOGNIZED BY UCSB PARTNERS
During a July 1 ceremony at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Oxnard College staff members were recognized, along with colleagues from Ventura College, for their years of support to the region’s Kellogg Foundation ENLACE project . Both OC and VC have been direct participants in that grant since its inception in 1999.
Dr. Jaime Casillas, the lead administrator for the project at OC, said that “the purpose of this Kellogg Foundation grant has been to help the region strengthen the academic pipeline by promoting services and partnerships between all levels of the public education system.” At Oxnard College, ENLACE resources were used to hire a full-time media developer, enhance the OCTV station with state of the art technology, establishment of the High School Partnership Program, and the creation of a community technology consortium designed to narrow the digital divide between Latinos and technology.
According to UCSB professor Dr. Denise Segura, “this project would not have succeeded without the dedication and support of Oxnard College staff.”
Oxnard College staff present and specifically recognized at the function were Lucia Haro, Director of OC’s Workplace Learning Resource Center, for her support of at-risk youth with technology and workforce preparation, Ramiro Sanchez and Andres Orozco, for their success in helping to develop OCTV, and Dr. Jaime Casillas for overseeing the sub-grant at OC and providing the leadership to form an ENLACE consortium in the Oxnard Community.
