| The McNish Gallery at Oxnard College presents Lumber(ed), a sculpture exhibition featuring the work of David Bell, Aaron Dadacay (OC Alumni/UCLA) and Maria Villote (OC Alumni/UC Berkeley). An opening reception for Lumber(ed) will take place on Thursday, February 9, from 4-6 p.m. at McNish Gallery, and the exhibition will run through March 8, 2012. In this exhibition, three artists collaboratively present a body of work that deals with re-identification, utilitarianism, and site specificity, while simultaneously breaking spatial boundaries and reconfiguring the exterior within the interior of the McNish Gallery space. Aaron Dadacay explores the idea of displacement and structure by suspending a gable roof from the ceiling. Maria Villote alters natural wood surfaces with hyper-realistic flesh paintings to create visually, vibrating displays of imagery. The McNish Gallery once identified as a home, in the exhibit "Lumber(ed)," redundantly shares the sterility of the art objects within its interior space. The McNish Art Gallery is located at 4000 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard, CA. 93033. |
