"ADOPT A COMPUTER" PROGRAM SEEKS STUDENTS FOR ITS COMPUTERS
Oxnard College Foundation’s innovative “Adopt-A-Computer” program is now distributing over 100 computers to enrolled full-time students with the start of the 2004 Fall Semester. The deadline for enrollment is Friday, August 27, 2004.
The ongoing computer program provides a means for disadvantaged students to take computers home as a tool for their academic studies. Over the past five years, students have adopted over 700 computers. To qualify for one-year free rental with a $25 processing fee, students must enroll for 12 units or more for 2 semesters. Upon completion of two semesters at Oxnard College, students will then have the option of keeping the computer or returning the computer back to the program for other students.
Following a recent donation of computers from local corporate businesses, such as Countrywide, State Farm Insurance Companies, Market Scan and California Bank & Trust, over 100 computers are available for immediate release to Oxnard College students.
All computers are equipped with pre-installed software, 56K modem, monitor, keyboard, and attached mouse. The computers feature a Pentium III chip, 128 megabytes of memory, a 3-gigabyte hard drive with Windows 98SE and Office Pro 2000 software.
