Oxnard, California – March 27, 2009. Oxnard College, 4000 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard, CA 93033. Motivated by last year’s great success, Oxnard Community College and this year’s Planning Committee members announced they will host the 5th Annual Youth Conference on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 8:30 A.M. to 2:30P.M.
The conference will expose high school seniors to a day of career exploration and inspiration. Inspiration that comes with motivational speakers, over 30 career workshops with a wealth of information. Last year, hundreds of high school students attended the conference and participated in career workshops with titles such as “CSI”, which explores careers in criminology, and “Lights, Camera, Action!” which explores career options in the Motion Picture & Television Industry.
This year, approximately 30 workshops, covering the fields of medicine, law, social work, robotics, business, teaching and more, will be offered and presented by professional experts. College representatives will be collaborating with local high schools in order to ensure that information regarding this extraordinary conference is received by those that would benefit the most – our youth. Students interested should contact their high school counselor to register.
Last year, nearly 800 high schools students attended, over 100 community and campus volunteers were present, and many local business organizations made monetary contributions to support the development and implementation of the conference. The overall response was remarkable. This year at least 900 students are expected - making the need for support even greater. Individuals wishing to donate their time may contact Jeannette Cortez at (805) 986-5863. Those able to make a tax-deductible monetary contribution may contact Harry Cortez at (805) 558-8663. Sponsor recognition will be commensurate with the level of donation. |
