OC REGIONAL FIRE ACADEMY GRADUATES CADETS AUGUST 11
Thirty-six aspiring firefighters of "Battalion 27" will graduate from the Oxnard College Regional Fire Academy on Saturday, August 11, at the Regional Training Center at the Camarillo Airport.
The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. with a firefighting demonstration followed by the graduation ceremony at 11 a.m.

Matthew Hill, Tony Carcioppolo, Peter Liechti, Michael Scheumaker, Cody Briscoe, Luis Buitrago, Kyle Thompson, Fabian Verduzco, Ebe Andrade, Edan Douek, Fernando Garcia, John Villavicencio, David Leon, Steven Hernandez, Clint Rief, Jason Jasgur, Calvin Desario, Arturo Jimenez, Jeffery Chatelain, Brandon Johnson, Ryan Leonard, David Smith, Ryan Cannistraro, Ryan Shook, Charles O’Connell, Scott Kellogg, Bryan Thurston, Benjamin Henggeler, Mark Veres, Casey Sullivan, Ricardo Martinez, Kyle Gilliland, Jesse Logan, Steven Lara, Jake Cowden, RJ Nelson.
According to instructor Paul Houdeshell, the members of Academy class #27 began their training on Monday, May 21 and ended August 10 after a total of 440 hours of academic and manipulative training. This included, but was not limited to; Use of Ladders, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, Building Construction, Hose Lays, Fire Behavior, Tactics and Strategy, Fire Hydraulics, Forcible Entry, Ventilation Operations, Wildland Firefighting, Vehicle Extrication, High Angle Rescue and Repelling, Hazardous Materials FRO, Live Firefighting and many other subjects.
The curriculum was designed by career professional firefighters to produce marketable candidates for a highly competitive profession. The Academy is accredited through the California State Fire marshal’s Office and the State Board of Fire Services. The Academy provides 16 units of coursework and Fire Cadets receive California Firefighter 1 Certificates upon graduation.
Participating in Saturday's ceremony are academy coordinator Captain Jim Peterson with lead instructors Dave Kromka, John Squire, and Paul Houdeshell. There were also instructors from various fire agencies including Ventura County, Oxnard, LA County, LA City, Long Beach, Santa Barbara County, Santa Barbara City, Arcadia, Ventura County Federal, and Cal Fire (CDF).
