Oxnard College English instructor Elissa Caruth has been re-elected as co-director of Region VI of the English Council of California Two-Year Colleges (ECCTYC).
Oxnard College Executive Vice President Ramiro Sanchez announced Ms. Caruth’s re-appointment on Flex Day after receiving a letter from Sterling Warner, ECCTYC President and English professor at Evergreen Valley College.
“Since she joined the ECCTYC Board two years ago, Ms. Caruth has distinguished herself as a scholar and a leader,” wrote Warner. “Indeed, Professor Caruth was the Board’s unanimous choice to chair our statewide conference, ’Crafting Literacy in the Community Colleges,’ to be held in San Diego in October 2003.
“As one of the younger, ‘up-and-coming’ members of the ECCTYC Board, this honor indicates the Board’s total trust in Professor Caruth’s abilities.”
The English Council of California Two-Year Colleges is an autonomous professional organization devoted to the advancement of the English discipline. Affiliated with the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), operating as YCCA (Two-Year College English Association) Pacific Coast. ECCTYC has a major role in the establishment of national policies pertaining to English instruction in the United States, especially in matters affecting the first two years of the college curriculum.
Ms. Caruth joined the faculty of Oxnard College in 2000, and earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from California State University, Northridge. |
