Oxnard College Athletic Director Jerry White has announced the creation of the Oxnard College women’s volleyball program and the hiring of Oxnard High School coach Lori Rice to recruit players and establish a competitive team.
With the recent addition of women’s volleyball and softball programs to OC athletics, the college will offer six women’s sports and five men’s sports in 2002.
Coach Rice, 29, took three years to rebuild the Oxnard High School team, which has won the last three Pacific View League titles. Last year the OUHS girls volleyball team was able to reach the CIF-Southern Section quarterfinal last fall based on the talent and experience of a team that had been together for four years. Rice herself earned “Coach of the Year” honors the last three years.
She expects to take a couple of years to establish the Oxnard College program and will continue teaching English at Oxnard High School. She is a graduate of St. Bonaventure High School and California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo. |
