OXNARD COLLEGE SCHOLARS SERIES FEATURES "SWEET CAKES AND POETRY" WITH PATTY SEYBURN ON APRIL 2, 2003
Poet Patty Seyburn, winner of the American Library Association’s Notable Book Award for 2003 and the 1997 Marianne Moore Poetry Prize, will be featured during a special Oxnard College Scholars' Lecture Series appearance, "Sweet Cakes and Poetry" on Wednesday, April 2, at 12 noon in LS-8, the Clock Tower Auditorium.
Ms. Seyburn’s appearance will be funded in part by a grant from Poets & Writers, and she plans to read poetry from her latest book, "Mechanical Cluster," published in 2002, and “Diasporadic,” which was honored by the American Library Association and was the winner of the Marianne Moore Poetry Prize.
Her poems have appeared in numerous journals and have been anthologized in American Poetry: The Next Generation (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2000) and American Diaspora: Poetry of Exile (University of Iowa Press, 2002).
According to Scholars' lectures coordinator Shelley Savren, Ms. Seyburn earned degrees in journalism and creative writing from Northwestern University and the University of California at Irvine. She has taught writing and literature courses at the University of Southern California, the California Institute of the Arts, the University of Houston and at the University of California, Irvine.
