OC SPONSORS FIRST ANNUAL MULTICULTURAL ARTS DAY ON APRIL 13, 2005, AT OXNARD COLLEGE
Oxnard College is extending a warm and hearty welcome for the community's participation in this year’s Multicultural Arts Day celebration to be hosted on Wednesday April 13, 2005.
This event will be open to the public, and students from all area high schools have been invited to attend. This campus-wide event will feature a wide array of great food, lecturers and guest speakers, cultural panel discussions, ethnic dance and theatrical performances, live music, food and ethnic and cultural artwork on display.
The event is a celebration of every religion, philosophy, nationality, style of art, cooking, dance, poetry and humanity. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Oxnard College, the focus of the day will be sharing cultural heritages and exploring the diverse populations that make up our community and our world. More than 30 groups of musicians and dancers will be performing throughout the day, which begins about 9 a.m. There will be performances by Los Bohemios, popular Mexican vocalist Viola Trigo, Sam the Piano Man and His Mardi Gras Band, Latin Reggae by Memo, Mariachi Costa de OrO, Los Paranoiz, E’Nuff Said, performers of Latin classical rock, Dunya Sol, the Rakisat Dance Company, Taiko Drummers and many, many more.
In addition, there are more than 50 lectures and workshops being presented throughout the day featuring about 45 Oxnard College full-time and adjunct professors. Also speaking will be OC graduate David Montesino, an award-winning journalist who has worked for the New York Times, the Ventura County Star, the Honolulu Advertiser and The State newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina.
“Multicultural Day promises to be one of the most festive days of the year for our campus,” said Oxnard College Classified Senate President and Event Coordinator Felicia Torres. “We hope this event will promote a tolerance in an increasingly multicultural world by exposing students to a wide variety of human cultures and lifestyles.”
