| Most of OC’s student clubs have already committed to participating in the first annual “Sports Day” at Oxnard College to be held on Nov. 21, beginning at 9 a.m. Faculty, staff and administrators are already assembling volleyball teams to compete for glory and prizes.
“Sports Day” is the brainchild of ASG Vice President Carlos Perez, who admitted that his real motive for organizing the event is “to improve communication between the students, the faculty and staff and managers.
“Unity is our goal,” he said. “It’s also a chance to relax and socialize before we final exams.”
The rules are simple: each club, campus organization or department can sponsor its own team (subgroups are allowed); each team is required to have six to 10 members; the members have to be students or OC faculty, staff and managers; the teams can also be mixed up. The only requirement is that teams be registered by Nov. 17.
The volleyball games will be played in the OC gymnasium and each game will be 10 minutes long. After ten minutes the team leading the scoring will be declared the winner and will advance to the next round. If there is a tie, the team that scores first will win.
Teams have to advance to the semi-finals and then those winners will compete for first prize ($250); second prize ($150); and third prize ($100).
There will also be a barbecue lunch, with club booths and entertainment provided by the Ballet Folklorico Mestizo of Oxnard College, the Latin Dance Club and others.
