OC STUDENTS TO READ AT THE OXNARD PUBLIC LIBRARY NOV. 17 AS PART OF NATIONAL CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK
OXNARD, California—On Saturday, November 17, a group of 25 to 30 Oxnard College students will observe National Children’s Book Week by reading to children at the main branch of the Oxnard Public Library.
The reading will be from noon to 2 p.m. in the children’s section of the Oxnard Public Library located 251 South A Street.
The students jumped at the chance to read books to children when the library invited them, said Oxnard College speech instructor Leslie Radford, who teaches Introduction to Oral Communications classes at the college this fall.
“We will have an ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter and some students who will read Spanish language books to the children, so we will have a very tri-lingual reading event,” she added.
The theme for the 82nd National Children’s Book Week for Nov. 12-18, 2001, is “Get Carried Away…READ.” According to the Children’s Book Council, a non-profit trade association that promotes books and literacy, educators, librarians, booksellers and families have traditionally celebrated National Children’s Book Week the week before Thanksgiving every year since 1919. |
