TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR OC THEATRE ARTS' "WORDPLAY" MAY 1-3 AT OXNARD COLLEGE
Playwright David Ives "WordPlay-A Collection Three Plays" will be produced by the Oxnard College Theatre Arts' Department during three performances to be held on Thursday, May 1 at 2 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday, May 2 and May 3 at 8 p.m. in LA-6 (The Forum).
Tickets are $2.00 for students and seniors and $4.00 for general admission for the matinee. Tickets for the evening performances are $3.00 for students and seniors and $5.00 for general admission. Tickets are on sale at the OC Student Business Office in the bookstore and at the door.
Directed by Theatre Arts faculty member Denise Gientke, "WordPlay's" three plays are a testament to the singular imagination of David Ives.
"The world where his plays breathe is more than slightly askew and always an adventure," said Ms. Gientke. "Ives' originality captures his audience and takes them, willingly or not, into a heightened universe where timing is everything. When one first explores this new terrain, the introduction is fast and furious.
"Whether it's navigating the nuances of our dating rituals, realizing you have to ask for the opposite to get what you want or inventing a new language where love can finally flourish, David Ives' singular voice guides his audience on an invariably kookly and heartfelt journey," said Gientke.
Ives is the author of several plays and is best known for his collection of short plays, All in the Timing, from which the three short plays that comprise WordPlay were chosen. Ives is currently an adjunct professor of playwriting at Columbia University and received his Masters of Fine Arts from Yale University. His latest play, Polish Joke, just recently opened at the Manhattan Theatre Club in New York City.
