Dr. Karen Engelsen has been named Dean of Student Services at Oxnard College and assumed the position on November 30. Engelsen will be responsible for supervision of Financial Aid, Admissions & Records, the Student Health Center, Counseling, the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) Office, and other student-centered support services offered at the college.
Engelsen holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in English from the University of San Diego and a Masters of Science degree in Human Resources and Organizational Development from Chapman University. She earned a Ph.D. in Organization and Administration from the Center for the Study of Higher Education from the University of Arizona.
Engelsen began her career as a consultant for the Organizational Effectiveness Center and School in Monterey, California. Her administrative experience includes serving as Dean of Student Services at Monterey Peninsula College for three years and previously serving as Director of Student Development for Desert Vista Campus at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona. While in Arizona, Engelsen earned a Lifetime Community College Teaching Certification and received Community College Systems Certification with the American Association of College Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).
